Nice way to treat someone who is taking care of your kids when you don't want to for free.

No need to be rude but also it’s not “free” and they are not taking care of my kids they are teaching them. So tired of these types of comments

I say this as a teacher. If you are testing negative, just treat all of this like you would any other illness. Call out sick if you feel too bad to work and don’t try to point fingers about who gave it to you. If you’ve been a teacher before you know that viruses are always going around.

Have you worn a mask in a room without air conditioning in August/September with 50+ kids?

Tell that to the forever-maskers that always say wearing a mask is no big deal.

I'm trying to understand the 50 students. OP-- were you exaggerating or do some schools actually have 50? (My kids says there are 36-40 in most classes at their HS and that seemed crazy to me!)

I was expecting to make a living wage to provide for my family. When I signed my contract in the Spring the rules were different than they are now.

You weren’t really expecting a special set of sick days for Covid forever, were you? Of course those went away.

Are you a teacher? Did you have to script out every moment of your absence from work while you had CoVID?

Just wanted to point out, though, that if your child in your household has a fever too, and your rapid isn’t showing up positive yet, it’s likely your child is patient zero and infected you, not the student at your school. I know that doesn’t change anything about the challenge you find yourself in, but you can’t know for sure you became sick at work.

All good points. All the more reason MCPS should have kept either the extra leave for teachers OR some kind of surveillance testing requirement.

Anonymous wrote:OP, you need to bring a HEPA filter into the classroom with you, regardless of the school's HVAC status.
Are you surprised you caught covid in a classroom where no-one was masked?

Some kids are masking. There is zero space for a HEPa filter or air purifier. We are elbow to elbow in the classroom.

If not, then the OP should definitely hire an expensive lawyer about that workers comp claim…

Not a troll. I’m OP. My kid and I are both sick. Same Day Testing PCRs just came back negative. If we still have fevers tomorrow we will see our PCP for flu test. I hear there are some other nasty viruses going around.

Disgusting comment. Teachers are valuable resources.

Ok? They’re also people. And people get sick. It’s normal.

That's nice. The discussion here is that this teacher is new and doesn't have any sick leave.
