I’d like to discourage people from writing in a random person as a protest vote. Just vote for no one for executive if you don’t like the candidates. Writing someone in means your ballot has to be counted by hand, causing more work and slowing down the vote counting. As we saw in July, the vote counting in MoCo is slow as it is.

Nope, not allowed.

People should write in his name anyway as a protest vote. The only actual progressive candidate in the race. If it wasn’t for the former Republican Blair spending millions in a quixotic losing campaign Riemer would have certainly won.

Blair got about twice as many votes as Riemer. You might as well say that Riemer would have won if only no one ran against him.

You’re not alone. A lot of people like Elrich which is why he won the primary and will be re-elected in a landslide in November.

+1

DCUM is as representative of local political sentiments as it is of average household income. That is, it isn’t.

In DCUM-land, Elrich is an abomination and people clutch their pearls at anyone who earns less than $300K.

In the real world, the average Joe and Jane Montgomery feel neutral-to-ok about Elrich and make a combined $110K, drive a 10 year old Prius or a Honda Civic, have a condo in Wheaton and shop at Costco.

Just a reminder: Elrich's margin over Blair was way smaller than the last time.

So, "a lot of people" also don't like Elrich.

More people liked him than the other choices. He also faced an onslaught of negative campaigning that is historically unprecedented for the county and local elections in Maryland generally. It is really interesting that even in a partisan Democratic primary where only the most motivated vote, the outcome proved that Twitter is not real life.

Nope, not allowed.

Riemer’s also the only candidate who couldn’t manage to file a campaign finance report on time.

That “dude” is absolutely incompetent and often his incompetence seems to closely align with his personal interests. Can’t get away with that as a CE. MoCo voters thankfully could see through that guy and the county dodged a bullet.

Unfortunately not enough voters could see through it. When is it time for the Riemer crowd to own their outcomes?

Who is his campaign manager?

Maybe they weren’t good. Maybe they worked a miracle getting the vote share they did given what they had to work with. Hard to say either way.

You don’t beat Elrich now. If you hated Elrich and voted for Riemer, this is your fault.

We are heading for a trainwreck with the new budget. The only two options are cutting services or increasing taxes. Since you also have a new progressive Council, they willl likely all want their pet projects funded. So get ready for a tax hike.

That’s why I’m supporting Sullivan. I usually wouldn’t vote Republican, but I like the balance he would provide. This council might financially destroy the county.
