What?!! The kids are in 7th grade, it is fine. If they were in 4th, my answer might be different, but they are 12 and 13 years old.

It’s not beating on someone to share a differing opinion. You shared your own. There. Even.

This has nothing to do with BTSN and everything to do with what goes on in the classroom. I have no idea how you got from “the students are being supportive” to “the teacher is leaning on the students for support” (that makes you sound totally nuts), but if the teacher is regularly breaking down in class, making the kids comfort her, etc., you can talk with administration. Otherwise, absolutely not. I think the former is unlikely and you are probably just weird and nuts though.

It's your framing of the teacher's intentions that needs a closer look.

Why are you fixating on this???? I think you are more caught up on her being a new teacher and looking for a reason to find a flaw. Did she cry in front of her students during the instructional day? No. Did she ask them to bring her flowers????

You are projecting your bias onto this teacher and quite frankly, it speaks more to your character than hers.

Growing up I remember the teachers who let us in on their lives and found it very interesting and educational.

Disagree, many kids that age have a remarkable resource of compassion. Perhaps the teacher sharing with them was good for everyone.

Saying her students have been supportive is not in any way equivalent to saying she's using them as grief counselors. I thought you were just uncomfortable with something sad happening unexpectedly, but it seems more like you're uncomfortable with realizing a teacher might be a full human being and not a prop who serves as a background character in your life. How dare she hint that she draws comfort from being around kids?? She's supposed to provide support, not accept any!
