Most people don't even know how they got it. They said they stay away from people but still got it!

I’m very sorry for your loss. We have had vaccinated and unvaccinated friends and family die of covid over the past two years. It’s not easy no matter the situation or age. I am so sorry.

What do you mean "who knows?" WE know. The general population knows. There's actual data that tells us there was a high likelihood that the vaccine would have helped her.

Don't assume that age means death by covid. My mother is in her 90s and is vaxxed and boosted. She lives down south where the nut jobs live and has been doing things with her old lady gang unmasked for months. She's still going strong and as far as we know has not had covid. She drives me nuts because she stopped masking unless she has to after her last booster.


I'm a little confused. I live in Florida, where I assume you think the vast majority are nutjobs, and although some people are masking most are not. I visit Virginia, where I assume you think most people are stable geniuses, and surprise, some people are masking but most are not. Do you think your mother should be masking through her daily life at this point? In the over 55 community where I live many have gotten covid over the past few years and I think maybe two have died, the rest recovered and are active. Also, most are vaxxed and boosted, like your mother.

I’m so sorry, OP.

My H’s family refuses to get vaccinated. His uncle died from COVID. Then his mom got COVID, refused treatment for 6 weeks, before finally being hospitalized. She still refused the vaccine, got COVID again, and had to be hospitalized again.

If she was 73 and otherwise in good health she would have almost certainly survived covid19 having been vaccinated.

What we now have is an ongoing pandemic of the unvaccinated. One simply cannot dispute the statistics. Other than very elderly or persons with serious comorbidities, the folks dying from covid - still ~400 Americans every day on average - are overwhelmingly unvaccinated. The vaccine won’t necessarily prevent infection, but it is overwhelmingly likely to prevent your death if infected, especially for people over 50.

I wouldn’t be as sad for someone 80+ dying, as quality of life declines a great deal in the 80s for most elders. But the 70s are still very productive years for folks of average or good health. I’m currently working as a respite hospice care provider to a 95 year old woman whose 71 year old daughter is providing the majority of her mother’s care. That’s really hard work for a person my age (51), and I’m not losing sleep like the 71 year old daughter is.

I’m scheduled for my covid19 booster end of next week. Had my flu shot this week. Will never understand antivaxxers; vaccines are overwhelmingly safe they are the single most beneficial advance in human history responsible for saving countless lives. One could argue that they were in that case bad for the planet, but they are most definitely good for the vast majority of individual humans who take them. I will happily get a yearly covid19 booster vaccine, just as I’ve gotten the flu vaccine for decades now.

It's pretty clear that the vaccine doesn't prevent illness, but it prevents death from Covid. Since the vaccines came out, deaths from Covid have dropped dramatically.


+1. I’m sorry OP. It sucks when people make poor choices-whether it be to smoke or to refuse vaccines. But that’s life and at least your aunt had a fairly long one.

I know people who have died from Covid this year too, they were unvaxxed. The immediate family didn't want people to know it was Covid, no obituaries and no traditional funeral services. It's just too painful. Yet, some of the fam are still unvaxxed.
