A lot of travel programs are bad in this area. I promote finding a quality coach and program in your local community and staying with it for as long as possible. If your player shows motivation like dribbling and shooting of their own and is dominating the local intermediate level teams that move to only top teams in clubs where he fits in the starting lineup. Lower-level teams unless in the high school age groups are there to assist the top teams in fulfilling required spots in leagues and there is a lot of unnecessary travel for competition that might be better in the town next door.

Could also be Arlington. Apparently they overrostered a bunch of their higher level teams to keep kids from leaving during last spring’s exodus by offering spots on higher level teams than they might otherwise be placed. Now that they have the kids all locked in, they are figuring out who they actually want on those teams and demoting the rest. Could explain why the “purple” coach thought he had a spot for OP’s kid but then had to retract it because he had someone pushed down from above into the spot.

You are way nicer than I would have been to Purple Coach. In the meantime, I would be requesting a partial refund from the club because you weren't able to play in the tournament this weekend.

For sure. We know players who have sadly had similar circumstances. Not cool to jerk kids around. I hope the OP speaks directly to their club to figure out what's going on! Makes zero sense to have players miss out on game opportunities for circumstances beyond their control.
