A chic fil a chicken biscuit has 290 calories. Why would you restrict what you eat the rest of the day?

Also curious about this. I have a breakfast sandwich most mornings. English muffin, one egg, one piece of bacon, and one piece of cheese. Never more than 400 calories.

Do you make it yourself?

Most of the time. Sometimes I get one at McDonald’s. Why?

Yes, I have and I understand.

My mother gave all four of her children horrific body images, three are borderline anorexic, and me well the complete opposite. I take after my dad.

When I had children I knew this was going to be so hard.

Mine are grown all healthy eaters. No food issues, because I made it a nonissue.

Food and eating is the center of many things we do in a society. It is important for kids to understand that moderation is the key.
1. Never force your kid to eat
2. keep choices in the house healthy and even some unhealthy. Baking cookies is a fun thing to do they don't need to eat them all at once. Fruit should not be the only snack item of course they should eat fruit daily, but some ice cream can be fine too. and no diet snacks.
3. As your daughter ages go with her to the grocery store let her help with some meals. Look at the ingredients of items maybe do some comparisons. Most kid like taking ownership and it's a life skill to learn to cook. Win-win.
4. Soda- not necessary and never diet. We didn't buy soda at meals our kids never cared. We'd buy it for birthdays and or maybe a backyard bbq or if on vacation. My kids never felt they were deprived of soda. It's funny now they say they won't buy it when eating out because it adds so much to the cost of the meal LOL

OP my list is just a place to think about. My suggestion is please get help. Having tools will be the best thing you can do for your DC and you.
5.

I am over 60 and still a work in progress for me. My kids healthy eates.

Do you use butter to make the egg?

For those of you who like to know the details even being generous with the cheese:

Thomas' english muffin: 150 calories
Egg: 76 calories
Bacon: 43 calories
American cheese (1 oz): 100 calories

So, if you have no butter on it this is definitely under 400 calories!

I have it without the bacon, buy very thin-sliced cheese, and have a little fruit. But yeah other than trying to lighten it a bit, I don't worry about it.

Some breakfast sandwich are reasonable like the Egg McMuffin or something made at home with a whole grain english muffin/bread, an egg cheese, some tomato..

But yes, breakfast sandwiches can easily become huge calorie bombs. Pretty much any "breakfast" sandwich that includes bacon/sausage and is on a bagel or croissant is going to be a lot of calories. If that is the kind you ate OP, I get it. If I'm eating a really indulgent breakfast sandwich, I'd probably have a fruit and yogurt at some point for lunch then a heathy dinner on the lighter side.

What did you do during pregnancy?

OP, try baby steps. How about eating half of a breakfast sandwich, then having a salad for lunch and fish and vegetables for dinner? Start small, with whatever progress you can make, even if it’s eating something “indulgent” like a breakfast sandwich and then skipping only lunch but having something for dinner. Whatever progress you can make at whatever pace you can is good. It’s not a race, just the fact that you recognize the problem and are seeking guidance is great.

Anonymous wrote:Are you really aiming to limit yourself to a few hundred calories per day? You do not want your body and metabolism to get adjusted to that kind of restriction. No one should feel guilty about eating more than once a day! I ate more than that when I was <90 pounds with an obvious ED.

I did not even weigh myself during my daughter's tween and teen years. We had all kinds of food in the house and she learned that everything is OK in moderation. I never skipped a meal, never dieted (maybe briefly after younger DS was born) and never mentioned my own body or my feelings about it. It was easy for me to do this because my own mother caused so much damage to my body image - I basically just had to do the opposite.

Just wanted to say thank you for doing this for your daughter. It’s so important and hard for many women to do.

+1 I think you should talk to your PCP about professional help. That’s a very small number of calories. I grew up with a mom who struggled with disordered eating and my sister also did. It was incredibly sad. One of the best gifts you can give your child is getting this under control. It’s sometimes easier to do for someone else but you deserve to be free of these worries for yourself too.

Yes -start now! My daughters birth motivated me to research how to “teach” her healthy eating but I ended up learning that my own issues were the biggest thing that would stand in her way. I recommend Intuitive Eating as a good introductory book to help start re-balancing your relationship to food.

You also need to look into unlearning fatphobia! It is so ingrained so no judgment from me, but it will do a lot to help your shame around food. Also it will make you a better person to the 2/3s of the world who are overweight.
