Decorating college dorm rooms is a huge thing? Can someone post links? I'm so curious. I'm just picturing my cinderblock dorm room at JMU with the prisoner-made furniture. Not sure how anyone can jazz that up.

My kid (granted a girl) added personality as time when on. I think she waited to feel more confident. Also, you kind of have to see what works with your roommate's stuff.

When we moved my daughter in, what gave her room a polished look was mostly her bright bedspread (with a theme that matched her interests). It had matching pillow shams.

Eventually, she posted things like sketches or fun photos of activities with friends. Cards she had received.

If anything, hang up on centerpiece on the wall, that is meaningful to him (related to his state or a team or a favorite activity). My kid got a big poster from a national park that she had enjoyed (she is kind of a nature kid). Others put up rugs or fabric.

Give him time. Once he sees what others have done, he may get ideas. Then you can gift him something for Christmas (if you celebrate that) or his birthday. No rush (or need to go all Martha Stewart).

Just be happy that you have a boy in this situation. I just dropped an obscene amount of money for my DD's room. The girls see postings from Alabama sorority girls who go over the top and they want to emulate.

My DD has an 85” tv in her apartment. She games and watches The Bachelorette on it. She also lives in an apartment. Last year in her apartment style dorm, she had a 55” tv.

That’s my DS’s room now (without the tv) - HS Senior. Doubt it will change in college. He never watches TV. Everything is on the phone or computer only.

DP. Don't know but a gaming computer is not a console. I'm sure they bring computers.

My son was annoyed that I got a pillow for the sham that came with the comforter. His roommate put up band posters I’d never heard of, but I would venture to say that his mom didn’t pick them out for him. Otherwise it was usually a limp flag.
