It reminds me of a soap opera character.

If you love it, go with it. I think Leigh would be a pretty middle name for Opal.

It’s fine for people born in 1890.

I like it, and sort of vaguely considered it for my DD. It's my birthstone (though DD was an April baby). DH didn't like it though.

I think Opal is a pretty name and it probably should have a 2 syllable middle name, especially if you said your last name is short too.

The first Opal I thought of is from All My Children years ago. That's not a bad thing though.

Opal needs a two syllable middle name.

Now I wish there weren't so many little girls with the same name -- especially when I hear their parents calling out to them in the market, at Target, at the pool, etc. . . . .

I was also born in October, but think the sound of the name Opal is ugly and the way it looks spelled out is ugly.

I think it's pretty and I love that it's a family name. There won't be too many but everyone will know how to say/spell it.

It fits into the old lady trend and the gem/jewel naming trend (Ruby, Pearl, etc.). Go for it.

I agree. It sounds very Mayberry.

Wasn't an Opel a car that didn't run too well?

I feel the same about this name. It's kind of sweet, and would definitely fit in the current vibe. These are nice MN suggestions. I like Virginia, Miranda, and Maria.
