I'm in. I can echo the teacher from the beginning as I am similar--less structure in the summer, more socializing, and I've put on a few lbs. I'm looking forward to working out early, having a healthy breakfast, then just eating the lunch and snacks that I bring. I do a lot better with structure.

Disappointed. I thought this thread was about a casino outing.

I’m in! I’d like to lose between 15-20 lbs. I cut added sugar out completely. COVID baking turned me into a complete sugar addict, so I’m trying to reset that so I’m not binging sweets every night. So far I’ve lost 2 lbs. doing that for a little over a week.

My other goals include working out daily-dog walks and yoga every day and weight lifting/swimming at the gym 2-3 times per week. I want my clothes to fit better and not have such a gut. How I feel and how my clothes fit is way more important than the scale number to me. I love being strong so if I add a bunch of muscle and only lose 10 lbs, I’m fine with that as long as I’m less jiggly than I am now.

I love this idea! In the past I have focused on:
No sweet treats (candy/ice cream/baked goods) except designed times with my kids (so no binging after they are asleep!)
Cutting back carbs at lunch and dinner (which I eat separately from my family) and then eating normal dinner with my family.

I’m going focus on those for a couple weeks and tell you every day how I did. Please encourage/yell at me to keep me on track! Tonight I have a birthday party I’m going to and I will not eat cake because I’ve had plenty of treats this week! I can do it.

Yes, me! I just quit my stressful job for one with work life balance and my body shows the damage that was done these past few years. I’ve got 20 lbs to lose and know this will be a long haul as I’m now in my late 40s. It’s the first time I’ve been overweight like this so am hoping to have made a solid start by Thanksgiving. In the meantime nothing fits, I have a tire and am puffy all over. I don’t even recognize myself. Starting with proper sleep, hydration, reducing sugar and adding daily movement. Good luck everyone!

Just weighed in today. I'm on a total weight loss journey of 25 lbs. Since the beginning of the summer I have already lost 7, so 18 left. I'm .5 lower than last week, so total loss of 7.5, 17.5 left to go. (52 years old).

Excited to *finally* be a normal BMI--I've lost 11 pounds in the past 9 months, and would like to lose 5 - 10 more, if possible.

When you're not that heavy, it's harder to lose larger amounts--so people say .25-1% of your body weight per week is typical sustainable long-term weight loss. If you're 120 lbs that's somewhere between .3 - 1.2 lbs a week. But if you're 220 that's 1.32-2.2 lbs a week. I prefer the percentage approach because it acknowledges you're often going to lose less quickly as your weight goes down.

PP who lost 75 pounds over a year here and while the pounds came off easier at the beginning when I was 250, it would be really hard to lose more than a pound a week once I got down to the 200/210 range. You may be overestimating how easily weight comes off for overweight people. The whole upper end of this projected weight loss scale seems fraught to me -- I also can't really imagine a 5 ft 7 person weighing 120 lbs losing 1.2 pounds a week in a healthy way, but YMMV.

My understanding is that you don't want to lose weight in a "Biggest Loser" manner anyway -- slow but study while effecting life changes is better for your body anyway.

Well the range is just that--a range and it is pretty slow long-term weight loss given that people consider 1-2 lbs a week 'slow weight loss.' If your starting weight was 220, you probably would lose the 1.32-2.2 lbs a week at first; as you lost some weight you might plateau at the lower end of the range (or dip below it) for a while. I've also heard recommendations that for substantial weight loss (e.g., roughly greater that 50 lbs) you lose at that rate for 6 months and then hold a plateau for 3 months, and then lose again.

I wouldn't typically recommend that a 5'7'' person who weighs 120 lbs lose any weight as they have a normal BMI so the weight loss rate doesn't apply.

I see this as a place to post healthy and enjoyable meals, links to enjoyable exercise videos or ideas, and encouragement.

Happy to join. I wanted to lose 25 lbs and have lost 7 since the start of summer, so 18 to go. Doing a fairly slow route, but no particular rush--aiming for a 1 pound a week loss. I went into menopause during the pandemic and gained the weight between that and remote work, more sedentary life and too ready at hand snacks. Not to mention I had teenage kids at home during the pandemic and with us all at home eating together more, I think I tended to match their eating, but not their metabolisms!

I'm motivated by the scale and the desire for any of my clothes with buttons or zippers to fit me properly again!

I care about my weight on a scale, how my clothes fit, and how I feel. I'm at 178 right no (I'm 5 ft 7), so on this last year I've gone on a journey from morbidly obese to just obese to just overweight now, and I'm trying to get down into that "normal" range still. Trying to lose about a pound a week, slow but steady.

Good luck, everyone!

Wow, congratulations! That's an incredible achievement.
