There was a Friendly's in Sterling until a few years ago. It seemed to be entirely staffed by teenagers, with the exception of one waitress who was retirement age.

There is still one on the main highway road leading to Rehoboth.

I also grew up with Friendly's in a NE town and absolutely loved it.

My grandmother ALWAYS bought us a Jubilee Roll when we came to visit. (Not the restaurant but the freezer case...)

The instant I read this thread title, I was craving a peanut butter sundae with Reeses Pieces. Still am. I need to make that happen.

I used to love the swiss chocolate sunday (I think it was marshmallow and chocolate mixed with almonds on top).

There was one down off of Exit 126 of 95 in Spotsylvania, tucked back in a business park. It is now an excellent Nepalese restaurant.

The last one I saw open was in Newark, DE, and closed pretty recently.

Now I’m trying to remember where the one was in Silver Spring or Rockville, I think, that closed in the early 2000s. Anyone remember?

Where were you vacationing? Is it still the same vibe? Are the iconic desserts still served?

My Grandmother, who lived in Philly, would take us for a backwards meal at Friendly's. Dessert first (clown sundae, of course) followed by entree which we were too full to finish. I thought it was the greatest thing ever.
(This was the '80s and still hold those memories close).

I worked at a Friendly's in HS and a few summers after college. I had decent tips, lots of Big Beef Cheeseburgers, and got in great shape from running around and scooping ice cream. My Friendly's "Employee of the Month" plaque stayed on my dad's office wall even after I got my PhD. I took my kids to the one in Silver Spring a few times before it folded.

I think some of the ones in the northeast are better managed. We went a few times on road trips when my kids were younger and they were decent. Kids seriously thought it was the most amazing place ever because the kids meals come with a fancy ice cream sundae type option.

There was one in Vienna/Oakton on 123! We went all the time in high school in the early 1990s. Now I'm craving the reeses pieces sundae too...

We’ve been to the one in Glen Burnie a couple times. It’s ok, but nothing like it used to be. The service is also super slow because they have very little staff.
