OP, I was cautious early on during covid for about 2-3 months. Then it became even more obvious that the risk is mainly to elderly people and those with preexisting conditions. It was also obvious that covid couldn’t be contained in the long term. Common sense also tells me that masking does very little considering covid has spread rapidly including in my city where people were regularly masking.

Since summer 2020 I have lived my life to its fullest. I’ve been on many wonderful vacations, made new friends and had way more fun since I’m no longer tied to being in an office 5 days a week. My kids have been on multiple beach vacations, attended summer camps and went to Disney right after it reopened.

Guess what? I’ve had covid 2x. So have people who only left their homes to go to the grocery store. Each time I was sick like it was a bad cold and I recovered fine. Getting sick is normal. You’ve had coronaviruses before.

One thing to accept is that there will likely never be an effective vaccine. There has never been a vaccine for colds and for a reason. Drug companies would be all over it if it were possible. It was sad that people really thought the covid vaccine would save us and keep us from transmitting covid. Keep dreaming. My point is that if you really don’t want to catch COVID then you’ll have to spend the rest of your life like this. No travel, parties, school for your children etc. All for an illness that has a very very low death rate for someone your age? Your children will be unable to support themselves by not being able to attend school or hold a job in person. The effects of poverty on your kids will be worse than covid. Unless you plan to support your children indefinitely?

I almost hope you’re a troll because unless you’re 85 it’s very strange to be terrified by covid.

You’re nuts and you need to get covid asap. Getting covid would help you big time.

Living life in fear is a terrible trait to teach children. Respect risks, mitigate them, and acknowledge that this one in particular is here to stay just like the flu so you can either be part of a very strange few who live in a bubble of fear or you can learn to live with it. People also have long term effects from a random terrible bout with flu, or die from it. Along with so many other illnesses.

We're cautious, and have been vaccinated. But your family's reaction sounds straight up nuts.

Don't live your whole life afraid of a sickness that LIKELY won't even be that bad, assuming you're vaccinated. Living in fear constantly like that...isn't living. It's just--existing.

Second this. OP, you could start with your pediatrician even. It’s very likely you have post partum anxiety. Your pediatrician might be able to help alleviate sell of your concerns about your childrens health, but also provide you resources for your mental health. Good luck.

It’s really odd that the only people who get long COVID were the ones who were irrational about it in the first place.

You need to be medicated for your anxiety.
