When has IG not been like this? Depending on what I click on my explore page can become especially annoying. I don't think this is new.

To PP with social media marketing agency: would love to learn more! How do you help your clients make money? Is it basically pitching influencers to brands? Or vice versa?

Yes, but for every time this happens, there are people like me who do Bookstagram and have authors flinging free books at them. It's uncomfortable and awkward on my side, believe me.

NP - I love having Instagram. I follow really fun (for me) accounts. I rarely post.

The worst are the ones using their kids/family as props. It’s gross. I feel bad for the kids.

Instagram is the social media I've had the hardest time quitting because my family uses it to share photos of kids or gatherings (I know about the privacy issues, I have begged us to move to a different platform where these photos are more secure, but my mom in particular won't do it because she's used to IG and will not learn a private photo-sharing system). It's the only social media app on my phone, as a result (I also have a Twitter account, but that's for work and don't even bother to keep it on my phone -- I just use it to retweet company announcements from my work laptop when appropriate).

It's such a cesspool. My account is private and I very rarely post photos, and my only connections are family and a few old friends. My feed is regularly just filled with ads and stories/reels from influencers, especially on parenting subjects. Some of these are benign or even helpful, but most are terrible. The motherhood influencers are especially bad. And it's so addictive! I don't even like this app but I'll log in to check photos and find myself scrolling random videos and not enjoying myself, and have to sort of shake myself out of it. It's awful.

I might just quit it despite family's protestations. Just thinking about it is reminding me how much I resent using it.

I’m definitely not a part of it. I haven’t posted on Instagram or any social media in two years. I just don’t care. It doesn’t affect me. I don’t follow these people. I don’t get why something that has no affect on you or your life bothers you so much.
