Balayge and tip (20%) is around 350. Cut is 75.

Wow. I pay $150 for partial highlights and a cut. With tip it comes to $180.

I pay $150 for a haircut and $220 for a full highlight in Rockville. I tip the shampoo person $10 and my stylist 22%. It’s expensive so I stretch out the time between haircuts and only get highlights about every 8 weeks.

My stylist does highlights and lowlights with shampoo and toner for $225. I can get a partial of just highlights for $155 or a full without lowlights for $200. That includes toner. I tip 20% for whatever service and give the person who shampoos my hair $10. The two-dimensional process (roots+ highlights or lowlights) is up to $250 at this salon. Blowouts are extra. I just leave with my hair wet. I go every six-weeks and rotate partial and two-dimension color. I have the stylist trim my hair twice yearly and do little trims in between on my own to keep the shape of the ends (long hair). I feel this is all reasonable (NoVA) and my stylist is great. I wouldn’t pay $400+ in NoVA but would if it was the going rate in my area.

Be careful of Madison Reed. Lots of lawsuits from people who say it causes extreme damage and hair loss. My neighbor was one. Her research found that most people who had hair loss experienced it after using their dye for prolonged periods of time (every 4-6 weeks on roots for over a year). She was all in for two years before she started losing hair.

At my salon, my stylist charges $120 but the colorist charges $150 for a single process color, so $270 + tips. Just seems too much for single process.

I recently paid $275 with tip for highlights, a toner, and a cut. I tipped $30 straight. Yet, I’ll probably go less often since the salon upped their prices. It’s all too high, and I want a better solution.

that is insane OP! I live in Southern California, in a very expensive area. I had a cut and single process color (I know yours was double process), plus blowdry for $175 + tip. I would estimate that a double process color with cut and blow dry would be @$225 + tip

I pay 110 plus tip for a single process color and cut. I also go to the J.C. Penney salon in an ex burb. It’s fine.

This is why I've switched to Madison Reed. All they do is color. $60 for the roots and then the cost for highlights. I am on the membership plan so I can go as many times during a month as I want/need for roots, and any additional services are 20% off (I think it is 20%). The color is better than what I got in the salon and 1/3 of the price. Now I just go to my stylist for cuts and Madison Reed for color.

Oddly, I've found that the Madison Reed color lasts longer on my hair so where I was going in every 3-4 weeks to the salon, now I am at every 5-6 weeks at Madison Reed. I've used both the Fairfax and the Bethesda shops. Both are very good with easy parking.
