House (no matter size) probably cost 1.5+.... I say this because some people just don't trade up as they age. They stay put, like Warren Buffet. Nice cars, may or may not be expensive, all in good condition.

No it takes being in the top 2% in this city (or country) to sustain this. That is quantitative not qualitative. The only other way to define UC would be the way Europeans do, by royalty and titles. This is America, we define it by money. The top 2-5% are UC. Most have the above lifestyle. There will always be someone with more, but it doesn't mean you are UMC because you know someone with more.

I am laughing at the idea that all rich kids are kind sweet confident kids. My kids attend a private school and know plenty of UMC and rich kids, and there are plenty of kids who struggle with anxiety, anger management, basic manners, etc . . .

Plus skiing. Not always tennis for golf, but sometimes. Dad can be fat and ugly but only if mom is SAHM and beautiful (not very career oriented or ambitious), otherwise he is held to the same standard as her. Kids attend month long summer camp out of state (or country). Some household help - nanny, house keeper, Gardner, house manager, etc. Kids do lots of extracurriculars.

I'd say my parents are upper class where we grew up overseas, and didn't do any of those things. They grew up middle class and we stayed that way in our lifestyle. They saved up that money so that we could all go to college and grad school without loans, and they can pay for their eventual medical needs as they get older without issues (as much of it will be out of pocket in the US). Families make lots of decisions about how they will spend their money.
You're MC here, maybe upper where you grew up, bit this is the one of the richest countries in the world with the highest standards of living.

When I pull up to them and ask if they have any Grey Poupon, and then they say 'but of course' and drive away, then I know they are upper class.
