Any nannies in here? Would be interesting to hear what they think of quitting via ghosting.

I’ve had the same nanny since my oldest was born, but I would not ask that. I would ask if she was currently employed though, which is a standard question . In this scenario, she would have 1. lied in the interview and said no, 2. told the truth that she was employed and then lied about giving notice or 3. told the said yes, but conditions are so terrible that instead of giving notice, I am going to leave in the middle of the night. If she told me #3, I would not hire her. If I found out she lied (scenario 1 or 2) I would not keep her.

We had a live out FT nanny quit by leaving me a voice mail at my office on Monday morning. She got a different job, not nannying, and didn’t want to deal with quitting. She was too young and inexperienced and wasn’t doing well in the position. We were so screwed trying to find someone new right away. Not mistreated, she was just really immature and obviously didn’t like nannying. We should never have hired her.

Are you sure " left in the middle of the night" wasn't an embellishment? Maybe the Nanny left after she put the kids to bed/her shift was over, had a huge argument with the parents which she felt was the last straw, packed up her items, and by then it was 10/1030/maybe even 11pm...not as dramatic as the title of your post makes it seem.

I could see some lawyer parents trying to get a nanny to sign a predatory contract. These parents were paying her well, nice room, van but I think they just dumped too much on her. They work a lot, go to gym daily, so it was long days for the nanny. The kids are a handful.

Yeah if you have a lot of little kids and work long hours you can’t also go to the gym everyday.

Living in is mostly for the benefit of the employers as is a nanny car so a nice room and a van aren’t the perks they might think. I would hope they would pay well for those long hours and number of young children. I’ll bet the nanny’s new job provides the same pay with less hours and stress.

Your friends sound like selfish p*icks. You don’t both go to the gym when your nanny has already worked a long day and your young children haven’t had any time with you. I’ll bet the nanny thought there was no point in discussion because it was clear they wouldn’t change.

Sounds like a terrible job. How many kids/ages?

If that's really how it went down, it's because she was afraid of one or both of the parents. Someone must have done something pretty bad to make her that afraid.
