That’s not middle age. It might feel like it because you are there, but most people don’t make 80. So, middle age is more like 25-50

But was there a dx after death from an autopsy? We can't only just blame covid.

Average life expectancy is 76 for men and 81 for women. Therfore, middle age is 36-40 for men and 38-42 for women. 50 and 60 is older than that.

No, that math is off because you are counting childhood. Middle indicates the middle of your adult life. So basically 20 years of childhood, then 60 years of adulthood split into 3 segments -- young adult, middle age, elderly. 20-40 is young adult, 40-60 is middle aged, 60 to 80 is elderly.
Realistically ,everyone in my family lives past 90, though, so I don't know if I should adjust those numbers, because people don't really seem elderly to me until 70 or at least late 60s. I mean, would you look at Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Steve Carrell and say that they are "elderly"? No.

NP. Never heard or explained this way but makes sense.

All my friends with cancer have survived so far due to medical advances.

Wishing everyone the best of health.

Thank you.

It was my own tipping point.

I’m so sorry. What a disturbing post. At 80 years, wouldn’t palliative care and pain meds as needed be better?

Palliative care is a necessity. Caregiving stress can ruin your health. Been there. Done it.

The ones I know who have died early (40-60), died of cancer or complications of type 1 diabetes.

I have noticed that too. Months after Covid, they took a drastic sudden turn.

Eh, I have lots of friends who just lost their parents. They were late 60s early 70s. People are able to live longer.

Unless they're anticipating living to between 120 and 138 years old, people in their 60s are NOT middle age.

In your 50s, OK. But that's stretching it toward the end.

Wrong, 45-65 is middle age. After 65 is old age.

Life expectancy is going down in the US. People are dying younger. I have noticed an uptick in the past few years. Some were Covid related, a few brain tumors, cancer, heart problems. It's real.

It has impacted me and another sibling for certain.

I’m definitely falling apart from elderly caregiving and I’m early 40s.

Yes, I’ve known quite a few 50s to 60s dying of hemorrhagic strokes and cancers.
