Getting all the serving things put away in the basement is a project. Definitley happens the next day when everything is washhed.

DH does the dinner dishes but he usually waits until just before bed to do them, which drives me nuts and sometimes he’s just too tired to get to them. He knows there is hell to pay if I come down in the morning to a kitchen full of dirty dishes.

Yes- it would drive me nuts otherwise. I am a reformed slob. Now I line up labels + hangers. A little postpartum OCD.

We do most of it. Run the dishwasher when it’s full, put away food, organize what’s left out for easy cleaning in the morning (like rinse and stack dirty plates).

I HATE waking up to a mess in the kitchen. I’d much rather do it before bed then when I’m trying to make coffee or breakfast.

Nope, I don’t. I put whatever I can in the dishwasher, put away leftovers and wipe up crumbs, but usually leave pots and other hand wash items in the sink. I like to take a walk after dinner. Plus I clean as I go while cooking, so often there are things on the drying mats and no room for the rest of the stuff to air dry.

Do you have children or are they older now? I can’t imagine being able to deal with my own things this quickly. After a party, it’s usually right into managing bedtime (and I usually fall asleep in their beds because I am so tired). When we get home from vacation, they need a snack or dinner or something else until it’s time for bed again. My suitcase can wait until the next day when they have been delivered to school/daycare and I am working from home.

Op here - yes I have a 2, 5 and 7 year old. I know I am super anal retentive. But seeing suitcases and bags everywhere drives me insane.

I don't like walking into a messy kitchen first thing in the morning.

Having said, I'm not bothered if there are a few plates or pits soaking overnight, but counters shoukd be free of crumbs and dirty dishes in the dishwasher. It doesn't take that much time to do after dinner/after kids are in bed.

Yes, but we often hire caterers and they do the majority of cleaning. If it’s two families or less, DH and I do it and it doesn’t take too long.

No, I’ll put dishes in the dishwasher, but usually the dishwasher would be filled. So, I’d run it then do the rest in the am. I’m at home though so it wouldn’t sit until the next night.

This. I will obviously put food away and clean up spills, bring anything in from outside, etc. But I get up hours before the other people in my house. I would rather go to sleep and tackle cleanup when there is less chaos and I am well rested.

90% of the time yes. I put on a podcast on my way to bed and just get it done.

10% of the time no. I’m just too tired. I will place pans and plates/bowls to soak and makes sure no food it left out.

95% of the time.

Once in a while, I'm just pooped and leave it to the morning. But overwhelmingly, no dishes are left in the sink, counters/table/sink area is wiped down.

And I'm with you - I unpack a suitcase when I get home. It MAY wait until the next day, but that is the absolute max. There's a place for everything and everything needs to go back in its place. Plus laundry, of course.
