I have friends who just went to see Chris Rock and Kevin Hart. They had to keep their phones in a magnetically locked bag, then the venue had people unlocking them when the show was over.

Omg! It's like that wedding post from earlier this summer!

I really thought that person was exaggerating or lying. I'd never been to a show or event where it happened until this show.

No, I thought it was pretty funny.

And I get why he’s like … umm why do people keep bringing their young kids to my shows?

They'll kick you out if they catch you on your phone. Mulaney almost certainly has a deal with Netflix to release the special on streaming and protecting the value of that streaming is part of the contract.

This also came up earlier this year when the phone locking method failed on Brosdway and someone filmed an released clips of an actor doing a nude scene. That was pretty gross as the actor clearly hadn't consented to that leak.

But they make it clear on the ticket. If you can't respect the performer's wishes, you're free not to attend.

Plus, I was expecting a phone call that evening, and it came right before the second opener came on.

I felt the phone buzz in the sleeve. I got up, walked to the designated phone section, and returned the call. Super easy.

I totally understand why comedians want to protect their acts. Especially since they are fine-tuning their jokes in front of the audience all the way up to the taping of the special.

We were there on Friday night and I thought it was the best work he's ever done. Easily the best stand up I've ever seen in person

Which night did this happen??

Saturday night.

Happened Friday night too; was wondering if it was a plant… but also saw a couple different groups of younger kids walking around with parents, including an one group with an infant.

Doubt its a plant. More likely that he's certain there will always be a kid at the show

Have you ever been to a large gathering at a stadium or an arena? Of course they search your purse and your body.

Why did they feel the need to lock everyone’s phone? How bizarre!

It’s not at all bizarre. If someone records it and put it online, then no one needs to buy any more tickets.

My kids saw him at Red Rocks earlier this year. Great show. Dave Chapelle showed up and did a bit!!

From what I've read that's actually a standard part of his show. I don't know what he does if he can't find a kid in the audience. I'm sure he had a backup plan.

It's not uncommon at comedy shows. They don't want people putting it all online, they want to be able to keep things under wraps for the Netflix or HBO special they'll be filming towards the end of the tour.

Pretty sure Jack White did this at the anthem, but for a comedy show?
