It's not so much the length of time as much as the length of the runs/walks.

The recommendation is every 300-500 miles. Some people take 6 months or more to hit that. Some people, like avid runners or those training for a marathon, hit that very quickly and will often rotate shoes so they don't wear out one pair before the marathon.

I run around 100 miles a month. If I'm not training for anything in particular, a pair of new shoes will last me ~4 months.

If I'm training for a race, I will rotate between 3 pairs to keep the miles lower on each and to keep my feet adjusted to the different shoes. I'll then pick the ones that feel the best and have the lowest miles for race day. They then get tossed after race most of the time.

What brand/style? I had a pair of Nike Metcon that lasted several years with about the same 45-1hr/day. I have Brooks now, and after just 3 months I can’t stand them.

My Nike Metcons last me 6 months on the dot. I’m on my 5th pair and love them but when my feet and knees ache it’s my sign to get a new pair.
