What grade is your DD? Currently weighing options for MS/HS (we are on the Hill) and I would really, really love to stay in DC and move in boundary for Hardy. But having a hard time justifying not just moving to Bethesda if we’re going to move.

The plan is to open slowly, with only a 9th grade in 2023, 9th and 10th in 2024, and 9-12 by 2026. So no.

Can my child who is in Jackson-Reed now go to the new high school? We live in Hardy boundary.

The bigger question is how are they going to staff this school?

what is the percentage of Hardy students who actually live in boundary? are there still quite few out of boundary kids?

No. Despite the misinformation campaign whipped up by the Foxhallers (with the Stoddert PTA as their useful idiots) nothing is set there.

DCPS has said that a community working group for the school at Foxhall will be convened to discuss all of the issues around the school (including boundaries). That hasn't happened yet. They have been focused on MacArthur, which is slated to open in August 2023.

JR is so overcrowded now and the projections were for such insane further overcrowding (in the range of 3,000 for a school built for 1,600) that even if some of the flatlining or even decline in demographic numbers comes to pass, then opening a new school at the MacArthur/Lower GDS location will still be needed.

DME hasn't done demographic projections since before the pandemic, and nobody knows at this point what the long-term impact will be. That said, the new school is doing a phased opening where one grade is added every year, starting in 2023. So it will reach its full size -- 800 students -- by 2026. The pre-pandemic estimate was that Jackson Reed would be ~3,000 students by 2026. Capacity of JR is ~1600.

It hasn't let in out-of-boundary students through the lottery in maybe a decade. The projections are that won't change.

Will Jackson Reed still be open to out of bound students or just inbound?
