OP, I am also short and definitely not at my skinniest right now.

During the last set of headshots I had taken, I had a few different tops to use. If they'll allow you to have a few different tops, that would be great. The thing that ended up looking the best was a very simple black top with flattering neckline. I had on a statement necklace and some simple earrings.

Those photos were the best of the batch. Just remember that no one is actually really going to be able to see the top that well, EG what it's made of. I think you want a shape and a silhouette that is going to flatter you.

(I felt pretty good about these pictures when one of my colleagues gave me some unsolicited feedback and told me I looked "expensive"... Like a high end executive.

+1 for no scarf. I think some of them are so big that they overpower your face. The best headshots I've seen are those where the face of the person is what you look at, not the clothes. A scarf makes you look at the scarf first.

This. Bring more than one top outfit so you can change out. Also, make sure you're wearing a color that makes you look good. If navy doesn't do it for you, then don't wear navy. I also agree about getting a blow out and having your make-up done professionally. My best headshot has me in a white shell with a bright pink cardigan. LOL that it was the outfit I arrived in while I schlepped in all of my other options.

Also, I just Googled 'best headshots for women'. The results were interesting. Some were completely inappropriate imo for a professional woman. This isn't supposed to be a Glamor Shot (remember those!?!). Anyway, look at this link. The women in the top row nailed it. The woman in the mustard blouse is almost there but the gap at the buttons is a total WTF for me and made me cringe. I also loved #s 5 and 6 down on the left.

Bold silk blouse or dress. Blazers look bulky on curvy women (myself included). Google “modern headshots” for inspiration.

Headshots are becoming less formal and more expressive of your personality. If you’re not comfortable in a blazer, ditch it. I like the recc above to wear a nice blouse.

Wear something with color. I’ve had multiple head shots taken and the black blazer with a shell is the most predictable, boring picture. It’s like taking a picture in a prison uniform. Wear a colorful top! Fun earrings! Look like an individual and not a cookie cutter corporate drone who adheres to dumb rules no one follows anymore!
