And yes, I would work only 40 hours a week at the current job while searching. Bc you can’t work 80 hours a week, job search, and raise a kid, or at least not well.

Yes, I’m exhausted after getting home and have a long commute.

I’m a manager and they hired someone senior to me but they haven’t taken on any of my work. They took two years to advertise and interview. They hired someone but the new person hasn’t shown up yet. I’m at maximum capacity and so is the person senior to me.

Since they hired someone senior to you, you need to amp up your job search. Sorry, but it will not get any easier with someone micromanaging you. BTDT.

Empathy. In the same boat. I have 50% of my team positions empty since 2021 and allowed to backfill, let alone add needed staff. Everyone is burnt. I try to shield my staff as much as I can but I’m sure im the a-hole both to them and to my colleagues for not being able to handle the volume.

The workplace today is so f-Ed up. Do we really have a labor shortage? Because as far as I can tell most of this job market chaos is driven by a handful of greedy execs at the top - covering their assets.

It comes across as bullying or gas lighting to make me work 90 hours a week to make SES look good.

OP. If they hire another person, we would BOTH still have too much to do, so I guess I’m doing the work of more than 2 people, working more than 40 hours/week.
