DC just heard from the JHU coach...pre-read came back "highly competitive" and he wants to know where JHU ranks for DC. We have an in-person meeting scheduled along with a tour. DC is somewhat negative about JHU...."where fun goes to die", etc. How does your kid like it there?

Of the 5 pre-reads DC submitted, this was the only one we've heard from (with specific regard to the pre-read results).

You might want to start your own thread about JHU.

One coach recently asked her to send a transcript, so she sent it and got a “wow, great grades, keep up the good work and you’d definitely be eligible for merit aid here— we are looking forward to continuing the recruiting process with you.” Is that considered a pre-read? We don’t know if the coach shared the transcript with admissions staff.

Ask the coach for the exact information you need. You want to have a clear understanding of the process and where DC is in the process

That's not a pre-read. It sounds like the coach is trying not to waste time with prospects who would never even be close to getting a green light after a pre-read. There's nothing wrong with that -- coach doesn't want to waste anyone's time, but I'd take it with a grain of salt -- especially the part about merit money. I'm basing this on our family's experience with three kids playing at the D3 level.

PP here. Thanks— that’s what I thought. It’s a fairly academically strong SLAC, but DD’s grades are stellar so I’m pretty sure admission wouldn’t be a problem, but you never know these days.

FWIW my kid was interested in playing their sport at JHU. Coach had a pre-read done and used a stoplight analogy. Red meant kid didn't have a chance to get admitted, yellow was maybe if scores/grades come up and green was continue conversation. Kid got a green. Is anyone else’s child still in pre-read limbo?
