Look on Goldbelly. You can send things direct from great restaurants and bakeries around the country. People love getting favorites from their home town that you can't get elsewhere. Or items from a famous deli or bakery.

Harry and David baskets? Are those still a thing?

(If you’re interested in the back story, we got Covid on vacation a long way from home and these friends of friends let us use their empty personal space to isolate. If they rented this space it would bring in thousands. There was nowhere else to go and it’s an incredibly generous thing)

Do you at least know if they have food allergies or intolerances? I’m gluten-free, and while I consciously subscribe to “it’s the thought that counts,” holding a gift that I desperately want to eat and can’t still stirs up a lot of negative emotions. Flowers are safer.

Zingerman’s for snacks or bread + oil/vinegar. The food explorer passport if you want to be over the top.
Wolfermans’s for brunch
American Spoon for jams to go with Wolferman’s if you want to be “extra”.
Jeni’s if you know they will be home since it’s frozen.
Cowgirl Creamery or Jasper Hill for cheese.

But you can buy Jeni’s at the grocery store right? Is it different ordering it to be delivered?

DP- you usually get a 6 pack of different flavors. Not many families want to drop 50 bucks on Jeni‘s ice cream on the regular. It’s fun and delicious.

Pastries and breads sound good!

I love honey baked ham. I also like Zingermans. I received Jeni’s as a gift once and it was so delicious. The brambleberry (I think that is what it was) was amazing. As was the coffee flavor.

I hired a task rabbit to put together a basket at the Ferry Building in SF and then ship it from the post office 2 blocks from there.

A nice note with flowers is more appreciated. Company Flowers in Arlington is my go to.

Look at Goldbelly. Get them a fancy meal shipped from somewhere. Or they also have artisan ice cream from little places across the country. You could do food from the vacation spot they let you use, for example.
