y’all must be a bunch of city slickers. it’s easy to check out the security of a fence. the bigger issue is whether your dog can jump over or dig and crawl under.

if you check the fence and sit out there while the dog explores or plays fetch, it is a nice feature to have at a rental.

Personally, I would look for good dog parks and then just look for rentals near that. You can take walks to the dog park to let Fido run around and get that energy out.

I would trust a dog park more than a private fenced yard for various reasons.

This is what we do at my ILs cabin. Dog gets to explore and we don't have to chase her through the woods because she smelled something that she must investigate RIGHT.NOW.

We spent a weekend here and it has a large fenced in back yard. Nothing special, but a great jumping off spot for hikes and the yard was great for the dogs/fire pit for evening s'mores.

Get a sturdy cable tie out and never leave the dog unsupervised while on it.

I’m the PP who recommended Barkwells. We’ve taken our dog on lots of trips, including some cabins in the Shenandoah Valley, that were dog-friendly but none of them had fenced yards unfortunately. If you’re able to go to a place that’s dog-friendly, but unfenced, I highly recommend Shenandoah River Getaways.
