I think this is just kicking the actual decision down the line to avoid complaints one way or the other now. I also worry that, since there have been cases pretty much always since omicron, they can just require masking all year. I feel that there has been no shift in thinking about covid at our school. All kids are edible to vaccinated. Many, if not most, kids have had covid already. Yet we have the same testing and masking policies as last year, before they had vaccines. I haven’t heard if they are separating grades, outdoor lunch etc. We are unhappy that are kids are not going to feel any semblance of normal, especially after spending the summer out of the area where everyone has returned to normal.

I know it’s been a very difficult few years for teachers but this is unnecessary. Wear your mask if you want, I’ll still be wearing mine, but no reason to be nasty about those who make another choice.

Is this because teachers desire to wear masks 24/7?
I really hope this isn’t In lower schools, the kids don’t know what you’re mumbling and can’t read your face at all. Much less engaging.
My kids teacher wore their mask 24/7 due to wanting to coach a sport, travel for it and it negatively affected learning and behavior in the classroom. 1 lost yesr was enough, but now 2 and counting….
I’d certainly want to know if we’re getting a 3rd year if subpar education. We’d switch schools and repeat a grade. We had some testing done this summer it was not congruent with the report cards.
Almost all of the teachers I've talked to will be masking (KN95) at work. I will be as well. If a parent did not want their child's teacher to wear a mask and decided to switch schools, I can guarantee the teacher would not mind, nor would the school. As someone wrote above, it's easier to replace a student than a teacher.

Anonymous wrote:Has anyone heard about mask optional for the fall at their schools? I am hoping for an announcement of mask optional as we would like to continue to wear our masks. Just wondering! We have not yet heard from our schools.
Anonymous wrote:New poster, but chiming in that this is what my school plans to do as well. It was explained that this will allow families to mask or not mask according to their beliefs, and be placed with a teacher that is comfortable. Plus, families who don't believe in masks probably don't want their children's teachers to mask, so those children will be placed accordingly. Remember, it is easier to replace a student that it is to replace a teacher who leaves.
Anonymous wrote:All this means is we will have masked classes an unmasked classes for those who choose. Students can choose whether or not they want to wear a mask, and they will be placed in the appropriate class.
