Well, it was the first (and still only) black hero to get their own dedicated Marvel movie, so there's that. A lot of people liked the main actor (I did as well). The CGI was pretty horrific in the movie, as was some of the editing. The narrative was also ham handed (come on... opening shot in the projects of black kids playing basketball?). And tbh the weakest part of the movie besides what I mentioned is the actress who is now the star of the movie. Remains to be seen whether a second rate actress who is openly anti-vax and crazy will have the same draw.

This is a harsh assessment of Leticia Wright but I don’t think anyone cares that she is ‘anti-vax’. I would also argue that many marvel movies have done well with ‘second rate actors’ helming the movies- I don’t exactly think Chris Hemsworth or Chris Evans are Sir Laurence Olivier or were famous before their breakout roles.
