I have decided it's worth paying the $3300 to repair my used, old, but still very nice car - which is more than I paid for it! - than buy a car in this climate. Really hoping the market cools in the next 1-2 years, because that's about all I will be able to get out of this thing.

My Toyota dealer has been emailing me about the 2018 Limited I bought used in 2021. For just an additional $5K, he says, we can drive off in a 2019 LE (base) model with about 30K miles with trade-in. I know they're desperate for used cars but this is ridiculous.

You won't see prices. The dealers are playing games with the aftermarket deal mark up. Some dealers claim that they don't add ADM but the force you to buy some clear coat and upholstery insurance for $2500. The games really make us not want to buy certain makes like Toyota. The localToyota dealers are crooks.

I am having trouble seeing prices on websites. Right now I'm not set on a particular model so I'm browsing, but it's impossible to "sort by price" if there are no prices. For example on a Honda website sort from lowest to highest will have a LOADED Pilot next to a base model Civic; there's no way that's an accurate reflection.

We are buying a car from a dealer in PA and they will take care of registering it in MD (just like what happens if you buy a car in VA but live in MD). We are even having it shipped to MD so we don't have to go to PA to pick it up. We paid MSRP. I think we ordered it in April, and it is in transit from Germany now. which is about the same time lag as our last car several years ago.

I was looking to purchase a Toyota, having not had one since the 90s. I gave up. I found only two dealerships in the DMV not marking up the price on the model of vehicles I was looking for. One dealer was charging $15k over a $40k mrsp. I gave up. Even with gas savings and tax credits for PHEV vehicles, I would not have saved money in the long run over the ICE vehicle I settled on. I worked with a Subaru dealer. Had a pleasant transaction at a reasonable price.

We were able to source a Lexus suv at msrp that was allocated to the dealer but not yet delivered. We have to take the car as it comes because it was already built but it has all of the options we want, just 2nd choice color. It will be delivered in September.

I did this last year - I did not pay any tax in PA and got PA temp tags. I made an appointment at the VA DMV and got the VA title, tag, registration and paid the sales tax. I was there for less than an hour. Definitely easier for the dealer to do it for you but I paid msrp when dmv dealers were asking 5-10k over msrp for same car.

I've been calling about a Mazda cx-5 and I have found places not charging (or charging just slightly) over MSRP. And definitely some places that are doing it. Further out places don't seem to do this as much and you can get a better deal.

No, you pay tax and registration for the state you’re registering the car in. I live in VA and have bought new cars from MD dealers multiple times.

We just brought home a new Subaru this weekend. Paid a little less than MSRP. Found it on our local dealer’s website while it was in transit. Our previous Subaru was from this dealer too.

Our dealer said many others are charging above MSRP, but not all. Our dealer is supposedly having people come from all over the state since they’re not gauging. My advice is to call around.

You will get temp tag/registration from state of purchase but nearly every dealership can handle titling, tags and registration in your state of residence. You therefore pay taxes based on your residence.
