Well then you need a different crowd.
Mine is all self-made.
Left home at 17 and never went back and got no help.
Steve Jobs did not come from "money" LOL
You need more education please go back to school.
Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg etc, all had college paid by their parents. Some of them decided to drop out.

I'm talking about families with means insisting on kids paying off college themselves with side jobs.
I seriously don't know anyone like this.
I know people who are paying for college for their kids, but want their kids to have some skin in the game by contributing financially.
I know people who can't afford to pay all of college for their kids, so need their kids to earn income to make college happen.
I don't know of anyone who has means who insist kids pay off college themselves with side jobs. I can't imagine this is a super common. It's really hard in today's world to pay for college with side jobs.
Most parent want college paid off by aid, merit and side jobs.

If you don't have a family to pay for all of that, then what are your choices? You can either get aid or find a way to pay for it yourself.
I'm not sure what your point is.
