Is it possible MCEA could still endorse Silvestre for the general election?
By not endorsing anyone they basically endorsed her anyway. In a down ballot primary like this, where there’s virtually no money involved, they basically guaranteed she would win. And now we have no realistic candidate to vote for in the general to oust the incumbent.
So irritating.
She’s the only one I like.
Ok, but voters still deserve viable alternative candidates to the incumbent.
We need Ranked Choice Voting ASAP in Montgomery County.
Maybe MCEA didn't consider any of the three challengers to be viable alternatives, and they didn't want to endorse an incumbent, given their "no confidence" vote.
You can’t tell me that MCEA would much rather have Fryar or Erickson, whose campaigns were basically just “keep schools open at all costs and don’t make us mask!!!” over Giandomenico, whose campaign was all about trying to find solutions to combat teacher burnout.

"What are your top three priorities?
1.) Ending mask mandates & distance learning. Zero MCPS students passed away from Covid, the response was never about safety, follow the money.
2.) Ending Common Core. This program is hated by parents, students AND teachers. It was designed to make our children less competitive with the rest of the world, and has done just that.
3.) Full Constitutional Literacy & Proficiency. All grades."

This. The crazy anti-masker ran second to the incumbent. Happened with Esther Wells too.
With the new and more contagious and deadly variants I kind of wish they'd reinstate the mask mandates.
I wouldn't hold your breath in that one

He hasn’t responded to any questionnaires, didn’t attend any candidate forums, and he doesn’t even have a website.
What’s his secret?
Having a last name that starts with E. He’s listed first on the ballot. That’s it.
Pathetic, MoCo.
I think it's that he's not the incumbent but also not Fryar and Giandomenico, who were loud candidates that weren't necessarily good candidates. So it's the anti-incumbent vote that's not willing to back the more extreme alternatives. Not that surprising at all. The current BOE is a joke and voters seem to recognize that.
I think you’re giving voters too much credit. It’s the alphabet. Nobody was paying attention to these way down the ballot races. Every voter in Montgomery County has to vote for not just one or two board of education races, but 4. And that’s after choosing from a billion other candidates further up the ballot. The BOE races are last. People are just checking off the first person if they don’t know much about the race.
Tell us why Yang is #1 in D3, followed by Joftus (incumbnent) and Alzona is a distant third if alphabet means so much.
