I got through 27 of the 30 cakes (and documented every one on Instagram) as the list was initially published, before they edited the list to make it 50 cakes. High frustration for me, but here’s the list:

Obviously it includes many, many cakes I’ve made and ~20 that are still on the to-do list

Please share your Instagram, I am cake crazy and would love to scroll thru your pictures of vintage cakes

I am @glutenandgewurtztraminer (espousing all those maligned food & beverage items - and don’t be surprised that I’m not a DC local once you’ve found it, you’ve got the right person. I’m actually Canadian, but someone referred me to this food board years ago and I’ve stuck around - it’s one of the best ones I’ve encountered.

Wow! These look awesome. Out of the ones you’ve made, do you have any favorites?

Sure do!

• This coconut cake is the best one I’ve ever had, hands down. I had made an earlier version that I’d evolved over years, and thought was pretty good, and it didn’t hold a candle to this one.

• The hummingbird cake is the most popular recipe in SL history for a reason. They offer both a layer cake and bundt version, and that’s my favourite bundt I’ve ever had.

• The Mississippi Mud and Coca Cola were the favourite of the chocolate cakes.

• The carrot cake has brown butter cream cheese frosting and multiple tasters declared it was the best carrot cake recipe they’d ever tried.

+1 - My MIL gives me (and her DD and other DIL) a southern living subscription every year. I love their cake recipes and have also made several. I just made the hummingbird cake for my DH's birthday.

Bok choy, braised then run lightly through a food processor or blender on low speed, is absolutely perfect for filling those trendy rice paper dumplings!

Anonymous wrote:I would like to make sorbet.

My favorite sorbet is made from slightly thawed frozen fruit — strawberries, mixed berries, or peaches — with a stick blender. That’s it. Years ago, I tried making spiced chai and Earl Grey Vanilla sorbet when I had an ice cream maker. PP, do you have any recipes or resources that you would recommend if I decide to take it further?

Costco sells a crab stuffed salmon that is quite good so I’d be interested in trying this.

Did you make the Doberge cake? I made this as part of a pandemic baking project and it became so popular in my family that I've had to make it for birthdays a few times. I wasn't sure of the lemon/chocolate combo, but it works!!

I did, and agree it’s tasty (and visually stunning) but honestly think that I’d just make a lemon cake and a chocolate cake going forward, since there are only two pieces (the ones at the join) where you actually get both flavours in the same slice. You’re more ambitious than myself to make it multiple times! What else comprised your pandemic baking project, and did you document it anywhere (eg Instagram?)
