OP here. By “not in sight” I mean the nanny is not close by. She was there but a distance from the girl. This is a city park. You can’t be 50 yards from a 3 yr old even if they in your sight.

150 feet away from a 3 year old is really far. Is that the length of a soccer field? Half of 1?

This is so very DMV re telling on others… When was the last time you were at the playground with your own children and focused 100% on them rather than your phone? Thought so.

Stop judging others by higher standards/virtues than you have for yourself. Therefore, MYOB in general, and in this situation in particular, is the way to go.

I am nanny and I would never go to public restroom and leave a child under someone else,s care unless it is a close friend and I know all about them. Not a someone incidentally met in the park (other nanny), never. I would rather pee in my pants or under a bush. This is my worst nightmare, to leave my charge with basically a stranger. My rule is, my kid is always within my physical reach. Some people are silly and naive. It is not that strange nanny is going to do something bad to my child, it is just she is not the one responsible if something happens to my child while I am in the bathroom. Sounds paranoid? Maybe but I do not care. I saw things happening t other children when not shadowed by their nannies. Falls (quite bad ones), walking out in the street/caught by a passer by, etc. It only happaned once or twice during my career but was enough to convince me.

What do you mean by being rough with the kids? That’s cause for concern assuming it’s not misunderstood.

The not pushing the kids on the swing and not hovering over the toys is not necessarily cause for concern.

I'd tell for sure -- but only after observing it directly.

I would write an anonymous letter.

I'd tell! Phrase it as, "This could be an isolated incident, but my nanny XXXX. I'd want to know, so I am sharing. Again, could be an isolated incident, or, maybe she had another nanny keeping an eye out..."

The only part of this that would give me pause is that it is clear my nanny works with a couple others as zone defense at the park. I have a 3 yo and a 1 yo and I know if she needs to change the baby or use the restroom at the park she'll ask another nanny to keep an eye out... and vice-a-versa. They have a close network and I've met the other nannies at park birthday parties etc. It is possible your friend's nanny had to use the restroom and had someone else keeping a watchful eye. I can't explain the meanness, though.

The mother already knows and doesn’t care. Telling her just puts you in a bad position especially since the child alone in the park wasn’t witnessed by you.

The bad nanny could see that your good nanny was doing the job. Sucks but it is what it is. Lots of parents are too busy on their phones to push their kids and strangers end up doing it.

Can you say that you've seen this? It could be difficult for your nanny if you say: My nanny has seen your nanny leave your child alone and be mean to both of your kids.
