My nephew is marrying one of 3 beautiful sisters with curly fire-red hair like Merida and I honestly couldn't be more excited to see what their kids will look like.

We have two boys and our youngest is a redhead. He gets comments all the time and his older brother gets jealous (wishes he was a redhead- he is a brunette and says his hair is the color of poop).

Yes, two of them. DH and I are (were) both redheads so our kids' hair color was predestined.

DH's family takes full credit for our kids' hair color, which I find very strange.

In countries where the people are dark hair and dark complexions, my redhead always has people taking pictures of their hair. At first was scary for my kid, now dc loves all the attention.

Red heads are rare and good luck. Not to mention adorable. Enjoy the attention.

Gingers don’t have souls

My daughter has red hair and she gets stopped fairly frequently by women saying they pay (or would pay) a lot of money for hair that color and how beautiful it is. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it’s annoying, and sometimes I worry that it puts too much emphasis on her appearance.

My daughter has auburn hair, and we get a lot of comments from women saying they’d pay good money for her hair color. Her art teacher always mentions it at back to school night.

Gingers unite! My teen who is a ginger always nods at other gingers and they even got a camp photo of all the gingers.

I also had red hair when I was younger (now kinda brownish) and it always made me stand out. In our family there are a few redheads in every generation thanks to Scottish roots.

I'm black too so you know I am not trying to be weird.

My 18 month old DD has EXTREMELY bright red hair, eyebrows, eyelashes. People stop us every single time we leave the house. Our 4yo DD has brown hair and eyes as do DH and I. We each have a first cousin with bright red hair so it came out somehow in the genetics.

What bothers me most is asking if I'm the nanny/asking how she could be mind/making jokes about who her real dad is. Our stopping me on the beach to tell me she needs sunscreen. Making comments about how she's white as a ghost or a flaming ginger.

Yes my kindergartner. I just adore his hair because of a special family connection I think it came from is meaningful to me, but I don't talk about this to him. He gets uncomfortable with the comments in public (which are mostly just "a redhead!" and sometimes gorgeous/beautiful) I think he doesn't like strangers paying attention to him. I like some of the advice given by previous posters.

Red hair/blue eyes is 0.17 percent of the world population. It's the most rare hair/eye combination with red/green a close second (most redheads have brown eyes), but if runs in your family or if you are Northern European descent (especially Scottish and Irish), it doesn't seem as rare, because it is concentrated in that population.
