My kid did it then, too. It's OK if you have a long break, but if there's time before college, I'd do that instead.

DD (college sophomore) had them out over winter break, DS (rising high school senior) had them out this summer. In neither case was it a big deal, other than impact on their diets for about a week.

Yeah, I got them out at 18, as did nearly everyone I knew. We’re 62 now, so the 18-year-old thing has been going on for a long time. That poster needs to back up her declaration with some evidence of the “commonality” of 14 and 15 year olds getting their wisdom teeth out.

FYI:

"Impacted" doesn't mesn the wisdom teeth are jammed into the molars. "Impacted" means the tooth hasn't erupted through the gums.

Mine will get theirs done later this month. I want to be sure they are fully healed before they head back to college. A former colleagues DD passed away in college suddenly after wisdom teeth removal. They thought all went well after the procedure and sent her back after a few days. But she passed due to undetected infection that went to her brain. It’s one in a million but better safe than sorry.

DD, rising high school senior, is getting hers out the last full week of August. No one is looking forward to it, but it must be done.

Spring break 10th grade (had a referral by ortho as braces came off previous fall)

For insurance and other reasons, do it now.

mine came out one at a time, but that was due to other dental issues. They were done at the end of senior year/first couple weeks of summer before college I vividly remember the last one as it was more impacted than the rest and I went to a graduation party a couple days later that happened to be on the same night as the OJ chase.

My own child had to have hers done right after freshman year in HS, as they were growing toward her sinuses. It went well. She attended a dance intensive the following week.

My kid had hers out during Christmas (what we celebrate) break as a college freshman, which is over a month long.

Apparently, that is common. So book way early if it is your plan.
