My master bath is above my two car garage. I actually have two separate 10 foot vanities. It is around 25 feet long. My bedroom is only 20 feet long. But I guess a 45x20 room in DCUM is normal.

Isn’t a small master bedroom an oxymoron?

Whatever you do make a separate space for DH to poop in. An enclosed potty space. So much more important than a tub. Wish I had this.

Small master, big bath

We are doing just that; moving a wall to make the bedroom smaller and putting in a real bathroom. The current one has a 4' square shower, pedestal sink smashed against a toilet. Two people cannot stand in the room unless one is in the shower. That is no way to two grown adults to live. All we need in the bedroom is a bed.

No way would I shrink the master bedroom for a tub. Get a hot tub in the backyard is you like a good soak.

You can make a kick add small bath with a great shower.

I think you need to go back to your floor plan. You don't necessarily need to expand that bathroom past that second window. Think alternatively- we did when we did our renovation- and we made our bathroom bigger.

What you're talking about would make the bathroom too big and the master too small for me.

OP here. the reason we have to double the size of the bath is the colonial architecture -- the master and the bath are at the front of the house. This pic is much fancier than my house, but imagine the bathroom is behind the first window on the left, and the master is the next 3 windows... to expand the bathroom would have to make it go past the second window.

My primary bedroom is really large so is my bathroom. If I had to choose I would keep the larger bathroom. I like space when doing hair, make up. Definitely get the tub if you will use it.

You can redo the bath without going out that much. There are nice baths that are 48 inches and extra deep/wide. Do some Google imaging for small master bath and see what’s out there.

I like a master bedroom with an area for a couch and a comfy reading chair. It doesn't have to be a separate sitting area, just a small space to sit. So I would prefer a larger master with a smaller bathroom.

The “master sitting room” is just a function of very large houses that are marketed as single family homes, so it doesn’t make sense for them to have the 7 regular bedrooms that could fit over the main floor. So you get a very large master suite.

We have a ridiculously large primary suite -- we actually have thought about how to make it all smaller, but it would be too expensive. I do like having a lot of closet space, but if you have enough closet space, OP, I'd go for the smaller bedroom and larger bath. I'm saying this as someone who doesn't like baths (nor does DH), but who likes having a separate WC, two sinks and ample counter and storage space in the bathroom. The only benefit of having a large bedroom is having room for a king bed. I guess I also appreciate having a quiet space for phone calls or reading, but I could live without that.
