Again, it’s not the flexible employer in jobs like these. It’s thinks like postponing your knee replacement because your surgeon’s kid had a cold and his nanny was sick or cancelling your flight because the pilot’s nanny had the flu.

My kids are very comfortable with their loving nanny. Plus colds don’t require mom.

I haven't used Bright Horizons since before the pandemic, but I did not find them to be very reliable for day-of issues. Often if something came up in the morning (sick nanny, preschool closure), I couldn't get someone there until 10am or so. They were okay for days where I could plan ahead (nanny vacation or something like that).

Of course you are judging her (and assuming it's a her). No need for that. Yes, kids want mommy (and daddy) when they are sick, but they will be absolutely fine in the hands of a loving nanny or MIL. And, it's not like the OP will not be there for her (again, assuming) kids when they are sick; she just won't be there from 8-3.

OP- I run a local agency and provide back up care to my clients (to the extent possible). If you hire through an agency, they may also offer this and then you will already have an established relationship with the owner and seen several of their candidates throughout the interview process and should have an initial level of trust in anyone they would send you as back up.

Those are great hours, OP! I’m assuming you have a very short commute too!
