A few things we need to know:

What is your personal style?
What is your industry?

This dress could work fine if you work in publishing, the arts or other creative fields. My concern is that the fabric appears a little casual — you could find the same style and vibe in a more formal fabric.

It's a nice pool cover-up.

I like the pattern and colors, but not as a replacement for a navy suit.
I'd look for tropical colors in a dressier style and fabric.
This is similar, but has a more structured, business-like vibe: https://toririchard.com/products/a-maze-anita-mid-length-dress?variant=41155420782768

I love it and I'm an accountant (navy suit central). I agree that you should make sure you dress it up appropriately/professionally and don't look like you just showered after the beach. Polished hair and accessories, etc.

I like it and also think life is too short to spend any more time in boring navy suits if you don’t want to.

I used to work in library/information services and knew a lot of professional women who dressed like this. I think it’s because it’s a women-dominated profession. It would be very normal to go to a conference, especially at a resort, and see both speakers and attendees dressed like this. My impression is that K-12 education is similar (not just teachers but people who work in administration or run businesses that sell to schools). There is just less pressure to dress “like a man” in order to be taken seriously when most of the most successful people in the room are women.

Now I work for a legal vendor and this would be seen as somewhat transgressive, especially in any setting where there will be people from the firms we work with. I still go for bold jewelry and will often choose a bright color accent, but this dress would be considered too casual for most of the people I work with.

I think it’s fun! I’m in accounting and like to see people show personality in clothes - as long as the cut/length is business appropriate.

Also check out j McLaughlin. They’ve got fun but more subdued prints that are coastal colors.

Do not take fashion advice from someone who uses “bold” and “funky” in one sentence.

That’s really juvenile for a work event.

It's cute but the material looks like scrubs.

I love her prints. Don't own any but I aspire to (follow on IG). Might be a bit much for speaking but depends on your industry. More creative/media/nonprofit? Then probably OK.

I have to speak at a conference in a vacation area in August and I recently saw a vide of myself in a boring navy suit and want to mix it up.

I am 5'10 and I feel like this dress could add some fun? Or is it too crazy?

I think it’s cute and appropriate.

I was visiting friends in Oakland recently and went to her shop. I bought a skirt that I love and get a ton of compliments on. I love the dress you're linking, OP, and if you're 5'10", you could probably rock it. And, like you, I'm tired of the navy blue suit thing (though I do still find my LBDs to be great dress-up or down travel options). Would the dress work for your conference gig? I think it depends on the type of attendees and location. Even if it's not right for that event, though, I bet you'd wear that dress at lots of other occasions.

It might be good in a single color, but I think the pattern might distract the audience.
