I'm guess it means that the B1G puts up with UMD and Rutgers in order to force their network on local carriers. In the long run, as conferences grow and out of conference games shrink, a couple of cupcakes like Maryland and Rutgers helps the better school stay undefeated.

The B1G came after UMD hard… even payed travel expenses and the ACC penalty for leaving.

Unc and Uva are scurrying around like pipsqueaks right now dropping to their knees and begging.

They came after them hard for the DC market not for their teams or their input. I'm wondering what non-revenue sports they'll have to drop once regular season games in LA will be a factor, granted Debbie Yow already did a good job with that. UVA and UNC will get to choose between the SEC and B1G. One fits better academically, the other is far richer. It's a nice choice to have.

The BIG wanted the DC and NYC TV market- hence why UMD and Rutgers are in the BIG- Looks like they want LA and San Fran also! I bet Stanford is the next school to join. The UC/Berkley athletic department is a mess.

Do you remember how UMD was in the ACC, but the NC schools never cared about what they had to say? UMD is in the same position in the B1G, it's just the midwestern schools who ignore them

Then UMD flexed it’s muscle and the really stupid remaining schools freaked out and locked themselves in a horrible deal for 20 years. What is it about them that can’t recognize or deal with reality?

lol. The SEC payouts dwarf the big 10s. The SEC is backed by ESPN who understand the move to streaming. The big10 network is backed by foxsports- who don't.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Texas flip from the SEC to the B1G. Texas would much rather be in the B1G academically…it holds its own with the B1G payout and the B1G footprint is more lucrative.
