They don’t take up misch space and even if you are pressed for time and can’t shower, swapping out for fresh underwear is nice

My son took two "shower towels" as he calls them, and two hand towels, for drying his face after washing, hand-washing, etc. Pretty sure I sent him with a washcloth, but he brought it home the first time he came back saying "I think I accidentally took this by mistake; sorry."

depends how many times he will typically use his towel to shower. use once and toss or use and then hang up for next time. i wouldn't buy extra towels because kid is a slob. maybe the few towels will encourage him to do his laundry once a week.

4 max. but 2 might be enough.

2 pairs is quite enough - 4 days use for the first (front to back, back to front, turn inside out and repeat), once the second pair is in fresh on, he has four days to wash the first pair. Maybe 3 pairs in case of emergencies.

Forgot to add, white may not be the best option here, though at least the color might function as a "Wash Me" indicator.
