The kid that slapped his butt, that needs to be addressed immediately with the school. I personally would fill out a bullying report for that, especially since there's a section for that in there.

You really need to reinfornce the expectation of respect. No one should be slapping his butt or touching him and him thinking this is fine because he is a boy.

Acceptance is important. Maybe he will grow into it, maybe he won't. Maybe it will become a feature he likes, maybe he will always wish it was smaller but regardless this is his body. This is why I think that the idea of talking about bodies as a big dark taboo topic doesn't help anyone. It is okay that he has insecurities that he needs to learn how to manage. You can build up his confidence in other ways. Everyone needs to learn to cope with difficult and negative feelings and emotions and know that this is normal to experience.

At 11 your kid is likely to enter a growth spurt and will be completely different in 1-2 years.

Not really. More likely just how they are genetically meant to be shaped/store fat.

I know lots of people and kids with large butts and it doesn’t correlate to how athletic they are. It isn’t like her 11 yr old is a power lifter and is squatting some huge weight rack on the regular

My thin 9yr old DS has a booty. He is not the most athletic kid, but is an excellent pitcher! To my knowledge he has never been teased about it.

Football, baseball, and basketball are all sports where large booty can be an asset. He should pursue sports.

OP, I have noticed this on my 11 year old this summer. He is otherwise a thin kid and his in good shape. I think my DH noticed, too because he mentioned that he thinks our son is due for a growth spurt soon. Kids at this age sometimes put on weight and then shoot up. As others mentioned, just make sure you are buying him clothes that fit well.

My DS10 has a butt. He's a swimmer and a runner and he has butt muscles. He loves it, though. He looks good in jeans.

Show him Hank Hill’s butt. A big butt is so much better!

You may want to make sure it's not hormonal issues, if not just his inherited body shape. My nephew saw his body change into a more feminine, round shape at that age and it turned out he had hormonal issues and now being treated for it. But I can relate to the big butt complex. I am a woman but felt very self conscious about it and ended up marrying someone with big butt genes too. At least we all look alike.

Does he run? That was my oldest son’s physique when he was an adolescent and tween and now he is a D1 sprinter.

Awww my DH has a big butt and got teased about it his whole life. He’s 32 and still has a complex. Kids are cruel and I’m sorry your son is going through this. DH is black 6’4 and muscular. He grew up around lanky white kids and this was just another thing that made him stand out. I’ll at least say it now makes him stand out in a very good way.

I’d encourage your son to get into and watch sports if he doesn’t already. He will see men that look more like him and are “cool” and aspirational. If he is muscular or wants to be encourage this, having built glutes is part of being built and that’s something he can take ownership of and be proud of.
