I’ve known some PE teachers who were phenomenal leaders. In my district they take on a very people-facing role with duties and events so they know many families as well. They can be a great fit for admin.

I always thought the principal's primary task was to yell at kids. Now(and perhaps always) it is more about administration and dealing with teachers. I don't think teaching in core subject is a requirement at all to be a principal today.
