It’s been tried. It’s called the ERA. A not insignificant number of people in this country do not believe women are equal citizens. Scalia was one of them.


Yes. If there’s going to be an amendment, I’d prefer the ERA — instead of something as limited and as specific as an amendment focusing solely on abortion. I wonder if the OP has researched and thought about exactly what it takes to pass an amendment.

Thus less children will be born to liberal parents in liberal states while more live children will be born in conservative states. Pro abortion activists are actually facilitating a less liberal population.


If you're going to play the ridiculous logic game, then you can also point out that with red states banning abortions, that more women of voting age will be dying from black market and back alley abortions so there will be lower conservative populations. Also, with no protections for health of the mother, women with ectopic pregnancies, eclampsia and pre-clampsia, and other life-threatening illnesses, will die in childbirth and in many cases the newborns will die as well. Worse, this will reduce the breeding stock in those states. It is likely that banning abortion will decrease the population of conservative states as the number of women of child-rearing ages, die from preventable medical complications that will no longer be allowed.


To add to the ridiculous logic game: there will also be fewer men able to vote since they will be imprisoned and/or have felony records as some men will undoubtedly be convicted of helping/making their partners get illegal abortions and/or of murdering their partners to prevent the baby from being born.

Then I guess there are folks in those states who have a lot of work to do? It just seems like the ultimate solution. I don't see how different laws work on this issue from state to state? What happens if you are in college? In the military? etc etc etc Some things work being state specific and some things just... don't...

I chose to not have an abortion, but I was glad I had the choice. I would not count on super pissed off men and women 'forced' to bear children raising their children as conservatives. That can boomerang. Didn'tyou ever watch Family Ties? It would be the opposite--Michael J Fox character would be a flaming liberal in your conservative states.

I am not sure we can pass a national law since the Supreme Court said Roe Vs Wade is "unconstitutional". But wouldn't a constitutional ammendment solve that?

Why not just have a constitutional amendment that vaguely defines everyone a "right to privacy" and then, let the courts have at it, interpreting it. I assume abortion would qualify as an exemption, same with gay marriage, and everything else that has been interpreted this way. Doesn't Florida have such a right in their state constitution?
