I can’t stand people with kids who act and speak as though people without kids cannot remember anything about childhood or the work their parents did caring for them.

We know *exactly* how much work it is OP - and that's a considerable reason why we decided not to have kids. We're totally aware.

How did you not know how much work was involved, before having kids?

Childfree people know how much work it is and that's precisely why some of them chose not to have kids. It seems like a lot of people with children have given it much less thought before having kids and are shocked at how much work it entails.

A ‘friend’ called me selfish for not wanting to have kids. We were early 20s then. I was shocked she thought THAT was selfish. And the older I get (still child baring age), the more self aware I get about this.

I made the right choice for me, hope OP made the right choice too.

I see the opposite a lot too. People with young kids, who apparently didn't do anything hard before the kids came along so they think it's the hardest thing ever, not recognizing that teenagers also need a lot of work and time, or that being or caretaking for the elderly is, in itself, also exhausting and time consuming, and coming to the conclusion that the world should evolve around them because they are doing the hardest thing ever.

Having healthy young kids was hard, but it's not the hardest thing ever like people make it out to be.

They do know. That is why some people choose to be childfree. Self-awareness.

I’m a parent but I don’t find non-parents lecturing me on how hard or easy parenting is very often. If anything, my childless by choice friends seem to have a greater respect and understanding for the challenges of being a parent than even many other parents do.

My observation is that people who don’t have kids, especially once past the age of 35, get far more criticism from people who have no idea what their lives are like.

Aah... is this to discuss how some child-free people want to force women to give birth?

As in, from now on, some women won't be able to choose whether to be parents or not?
