He told you his plans and since he is an adult, you don't really get much of a say about this. I'd be happy he let me know where he was.

I disagree. If my kid (of any age) is living rent-free in my house and eating my food, etc., I am totally entitled to make some rules surrounding that. At my house, they have to be home by a certain time because my house, my rules. FWIW, I have four kids in their twenties and none of them has ever complained about this. Of course, there were nights they slept at friends’ houses, but they always showed enough respect to let us know what was going on.

THIS. Y'all need to teach your boys that they are also responsible for birth control. Pill + Condom EVERY SINGLE TIME.

100% I said as much to my boys today. Your life will be over as you know it. Hopefully that gets them to the polls.

I'm actually impressed that your son not only kept you in the loop but also let you know he'd be staying out all night. Other than making sure he's using condoms every time I wouldn't have any concerns. I have two boys, 22 & 17.

If you live in Virginia, Youngkin is coming for you. Tell your son to be careful or you will be a young Grandma!

What’s his next step? If it’s college in August you might view this quite different than if he’s living at home and working. Either way I think he was considerate in that he let you know his intent. He didn’t just stay out and leave you wondering.

What do you think happens in college?

He got home the next morning around 8 am, looking entirely to pleased with himself. I'm definitely not happy about this, he's had girlfriend's before so I don't think he's a Saint, but i think we're headed for some post graduation conflict

He's my oldest so I'm a bit out of my depth on what to do

I don’t care about the 18 is an adult. They are still young and need the structure from their parents.
I let my DS stay out all the time but he needs to let me know where he will sleep.
It’s more with his friends that are girls and boys.
Not sure how I’d feel about a date. Was it a one night stand?
That I would not like!

HAHAHA.

I think there's nothing wrong with sharing concern about consequences, precautions, intentions, etc., but you really have no control over his decisions. He could've just told you he was crashing at a friend's but was honest about it, so that's good. I wd let it go, esp if he plans to move out soon. But in light of today's news, I might have a conversation about that.
