I think Racine will cruise to election as Mayor in 2026. Bowser won't go for a 4th term. I bet these two struck an agreement - he won't primary her in 2022 as long as she clears the deck for him in 2026. No need to fight!

He'll spend the next 3 years making gobs of money in the private sector and getting his donors in line.

Kinda think this is right. But wouldn’t he have to strike a deal with R White too so he doesn’t run again?

I think the only other possibility with Racine is he for some reason decided he was done with public life and peaced out. I personally think he could have beat Bowser this year in a Bowser vs Racine race.

While this very well may be true, I would think that Bowser would be better positioned to take over that seat.

Same for Mendo, Bonds, and Bowser. Why did you forget about their names? 95% of the city didn't vote for them.

Robert White ran to be the front runner in 2026 and I think he accomplished that goal.

Without this run he'd be in no position to run and win in 2026, but there's no way to tell the front runner. Clearly he'll have to contend with McDuffie and possibly Racine next time.

Bowser is the frontrunner for a 4th term and its honestly her's if she wants it.

No she won’t. General consensus is that 3 terms are plenty. I think there would be a lot of pushback from all corners if she goes for 4.

White is still on the Council, so that's another Racine-endorsed seat.

Mayor of DC in 2026 could be a very, very different and less attractive position than it is today. A Republican trifecta in 2022/2024 would turn life in this city upside down, starting with home rule, which Republicans are already talking about trying to repeal. Add to that reproductive rights, gun restrictions, LGBTQ+ rights—all would be under attack. And we’d become ground zero for every culture war game Republicans want to play.

It’s possible no one will want to be mayor of this city in 2026.

I'm curious but don't feel like looking. How many of Racine's endorsements went to incumbents? I'd have to think being an incumbent is a bigger factor in getting elected than a Racine endorsement. Correlation does not mean causation.

It will be interesting if Racine runs. I don’t think he will. But if he does he certainly would be clear favorite.

As for R. White, Racine aside he will need to contend with McDuffie and many others, but he will be starting out with a big advantage. Already has a campaign apparatus and a significant number of voters will have muscle memory and enthusiasm to vote for him a second time. It what will likely be a crowded primary, he may already have a third of the vote locked up.

And he’ll have had another citywide campaign for re-election as at-large councilmember in 2024, which will allow him to put forward a refreshed agenda and keep him fresh in people’s minds.

McDuffie is screwed (and I'm glad). After getting kicked out of the AG race, he has no platform for visibility. He is not well liked in Ward 5 (I find it hilarious that it's the only Ward Spiva, who is the one who got McDuffie ousted from the race, won) and has limited visibility citywide. He has a few powerful supporters in the business community but that's it. I think he will be a non-entity in 2026 if he decides to run.
