What are her reaches and safeties? I have a TJ grad from 2017 who had similar stats and was told to consider UVA and WM as safeties - is that still the case?


She had a bunch of T20 schools in her mind. Pitts is considered safety for all of them. WM for most. UVA not so much.

Rice - not a suburb, but definitely a suburban feel given Houston's sprawling nature. And being a non-Stem student would be a plus.

She sounds so much like my Blair kid! Swap passionate volunteer w/ arts, and there you go. Would you get FA at the CSS schools? We also can't afford full pay at elite, but because we are under $150K AGI, we got financial aid from the targets and reaches she was accepted to because they used the CSS. Targets were Vassar and Wesleyan. She had 2 safeties that had a lot to like about them, so the rest were reaches.


What were the safeties?

She should look into the Bronco scholarship @ Santa Clara. Those Claremont colleges are an absolute lottery.

The other Claremont schools would likely be considered reaches.

Definitely look for schools that offer merit aid. But also, some schools are more generous with financial than others, so don't assume you'll pay the full listed price. Try to run the net price calculator for schools she's most interested in to get a sense of what you might pay out of pocket.
