Agree with others about Hopkins, unless you like paying a ton of money for treatment by clueless medical students.

I switched from Columbia Fertility to VCRM back in 2009 and was very glad I did. Kid is in 7th grade now.

Do you have BC/BS ?

If so, JHU just dropped them. Avoid JHU.

I second Johns Hopkins: It's essentially an elementary school of untrained fellows/residents who make a ton of mistakes. Hopkins will just chalk it up to "biological factors."

We used SGF several years ago for IVF and while I definitely felt like a number, we did have a successful pregnancy and birth. the doctors always seemed rushed except for the initial consult, and it was always a different doctor. I had to really stay on top of my dates and the whole process. At times the schedule/protocol was unnecessarily drawn out/longer than needed although after I complained to the nurse it was revised and shortened.

My advice is that wherever you go, be prepared to stay on top of things (the medical process, billing and admin). Understand and read up on the treatment plan, know the steps, dates etc. and follow up regularly. Best of luck. it worked out for me and was worth all the energy we put into it.

I had a great experience with Shady Grove and never felt like a number. I initially didn’t like my (flippant) nurse and when I complained my Dr was very apologetic and quickly assigned a new nurse. I saw several REs and they were all wonderful. I was pregnant after first IVF try.

Stay away from Johns Hopkins.

They are the worst of the worst!

I'm there now - with their new doctor not Dr. F, but Dr. F's reputation is what brought me there. I really like my nurse, Molly, and their financial staffer Connie is wonderful. Good luck!!

I did Shady Grove for egg freezing, and I did like my experience. It is true, you never see your doctor except your initial consult and procedure, but I felt very cared for by all the nurses, the ultrasound techs, and the PA's who draw blood. I even fainted once during one of the many blood draws, and they were so wonderful.

If you are willing to go to New York - Spring Fertility is amazing. Very patient centered.

I'm currently serving as a gestational carrier and we're using the Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine. They're a very small practice and they've been awesome.
