OP,
I'm so sorry your thread got so rudely derailed. I wonder if these funerals are extra difficult because of the loss of your own parents so young?

Maybe there's some unresolved grief. I don't find the funerals/memorials for elderly parents to be as sad as you describe. Sometimes I almost enjoy them, because they are really a celebration of the life of the person who passed.

How did this become a covid thread? Once you are on your mind to late 40s, your friends parents start dying more often. That's just life.

My friend's mother who had covid 2 months ago just had a stroke. Obviously, it could be a coincidence. But I do think long term we may find some correlations we don't like.

I lost both of my parents many years ago and know exactly what it's like, but both were young and average of 2 decades before the wave of friends parental deaths. Now there's one every couple of months, if not sooner.

Anyone else at this stage of life? Do you go to all the funerals? Do you skip them... because it's just too much?


I am across the country from my hometown now and haven't been able to attend. I have a good deal of guilt about it.
