My husband has always hated politics since I met him and I have no idea on his stance on the typical big issues (though I could probably guess). That was fine for a little while when life was less political but I've found myself wanting to vent about events since covid and he's been so unreceptive that it caused some marital issues (bruskly saying he doesn't care and to stop talking about it).

I despise politics and politicians and my wife is completely uninterested in it (she is from another country). We talk all the time about all kinds of things but almost never politics. One thing is for sure - talking about it won't change anything.
Hell, even going out and protesting or spending your entire life as a political activist won't change anything. I have a low opinion of people who talk politics because they are naive

That’s wild to me that she doesn’t actually know! That goes beyond you’re general “not talking about politics” IMO.

DH and I don’t talk about it too often because I tend to be more harsh on republicans and politicians generally (politicians of all parties) and he thinks that’s mean and it bugs him to hear it. But we ultimately vote for the same people and believe in the same causes. We do talk about issues that aren’t completely political, like police use of force and trans rights.

Politics isn’t something I’m interested in all the time, and so that plus DH and I having different approaches to politics makes it so we don’t talk about too much. But definitely sometimes.

No I don’t talk politics with my spouse. We just have better things to talk about.

This isn’t shocking given your mothers age.

Women of that era didn’t see their husbands as their everything nor tell their husband every single thing. They reserved that for their girlfriends.

Women of that era are and will always be much smarter than younger women today.
