Apparently they have some program where an admissions officer will look at alumni kids transcripts etc and let the parents know if their child has a real chance of admissions. They essentially told my neighbor that by taking AP calc AB and not taking physics C at his super tony, competitive public HS his course load is not “most rigorous” and most likely would not get into UVA. Ironically he is at Villanova for engineering now. This “review” for alumni kids is not a myth nor is what this woman reported to me. She and her husband may be considered VIP alumni since they are now very rich, so maybe this was a courtesy not available to all alumni.

Villanova is a bit easier to get into than uva, and even if both seem like your son would have a chance at both, maybe play it safe and Ed at Villanova. College admissions this past year were brutal. UVA also cares SO MUCH about the college counselor checking the “most rigorous” box so if your son isn’t going to take bc calc I wouldn’t even bother applying.
This is a DCUM myth. I have never heard anyone outside of this forum say this.

Er, do you have recent experience w/UVA admissions? Like HS classes of 2021
or 2022 experience?
I tuned into a live instagram where someone asked about it. They go live every week and you can ask questions.
Okay, come back when your kid gets in to both, then

First, I love the subtle dig at UVA. Yea, right, it and Villanova carry the same weight reputation wise in NYC and Boston. Clearly false.
Second, OOS admissions to UVA are much, much tougher than Villanova. I have a good friend who has two sons going to school at Villanova. Both went after being rejected from UVA in state from a top NOVA publc high school.
Yes, but that has changed. Villanova’s stock has been steadily on the rise in recent years. Record number of applications this year and 23% acceptance rate. UVA has consistently been in the 15-17% acceptance range for OOS - 15% this year. UVA is tougher but not by much.
